DEBRIEFING THE BOYS -->

nothing

I know I need to post, but I got nothing. Uhhh, I got my flu shot yesterday. And it wouldn't stop bleeding. And I think it's kinda funny that people stand in long lines to get injected with a syringe-full of a deadly disease. And...nothing. I have just had a lot of work to do.

I am pleased with the outcome of the election, at least on the national level. Colbert did a funny thing on Nancy Pelosi. I hope Allen concedes soon in Virginia.

I am disappointed in the states that banned gay marriage, but not surprised. I guess it's human nature to pick on the little guy. And until more of us come out and are proud and fight for our rights, we'll always be the little guy.

I think James Dobson is a total douchebag. And I'm glad Santorum lost. But I am pleased that this is what comes up first when you google his name. Although my Republican friends keep saying he could win the presidency. Yeah right. If he does, I'll move to Australia.

I'm tired of the rain, and I'm irritated by the bureaucracy at this school that keeps them from fixing the fucking potholes in the sidewalk so that we all have to long-jump to get around when it rains.

I'm tired of people who don't know me speaking like they do, telling me I'm not what I think or I am what I'm not.

I just found out that Karl Rove's step-dad (who he thought of as his dad) was gay, and that they loved each other very much, and that the poor old guy lived until 2004, and therefore had to watch as his son betrayed him for political gain to put a hack in the White House. That'll make a dad proud, huh?

Colorado did not legalize marijuana, that measure failed.

As long as the Democratic Party keeps itself closer to Centre, than to the left it has a tremendous capacity to attract the swing/Independent voters as it did in this election.

In the last 4-5 years in their zeal to take anti-Bush positions, the Democrats covertly endorsed gay marriage and were reduced to a minority. But in this election they fielded centrist like Bob Casey (defeated Santorum) and Jim Webb (defeated George Allen) who carried the election for Dems.

When the efforts to legalize gay marriage started a few years back I knew this was going to backfire on the gay community. Now gay marriage is banned in more than half the states.
State level Gay Marriage Bans

Thanks to the gay activists. We were better off w/o these bans.

People stand in long lines to get injected with a syringe full of "dead", inactive viruses so that they DON'T get infected by a deadly disease. You can't get the flu from flu shots.

If you cannot get infected from a flu shot, then how did people get polio from the polio shot? Or does that only happen with immunizations?

Well, the flu shot IS an immunization. The thing is that the flu virus evolves very rapidly and changes its protein coat (without getting into too much detail that is what your body uses to identify and destroy the flu viruses, but we have an acquired immune system and you need to be exposed to the proteins at least once for your body to know how to deal with it. That's how flu vaccines work, they have "dead" viruses so that your body finds them and knows how to deal with them for the next time it sees those proteins. Flu vaccines only work for one strain of the virus, and the people make them to immunize you against the flu virus that is currently going around. People who get the flu after they get the vaccine didn't get the strain that the vaccine immunized them for, but another strain to which they had no immunity)

As for polio, I really don't know, so I won't speculate (I did a quick search, didn't find anything useful). You can look up what I said about the flu vaccine though, I'm 99.99% sure it's right.

You can't get the flu from a flu shot, but you can certainly get a buzz from a whiskey shot. Mens sana in corpora sana, and a bracing shot of Scotch promotes both.

Vaccines can contain attenuated (weakened) germs (e.g., chickenpox vaccine), dead/killed germs (e.g., injeted polio vaccine), inactivated germ toxins (e.g., tetenus vaccine), or protein/RNA/DNA particles from a germ (e.g., Hep B vaccine).

You can still catch the agent you've been vaccinated against...if the vaccine didn't "take" (rare, but not everyone responds to every vaccine), if it wasn't administered properly (if you didn't get all the shots in a series a la Hep B), or if your immune system weakens or "forgets" (e.g., AIDs, shingles late in life for people who've had chickenpox as a kid).

There IS a form of polio vaccine (oral) that contains live polio, but this is mainly used in developing countries (it's cheaper to produce)and developing polio even from that type of vaccine is still a rare occurrence.

Get vaccinated :)

what the hell is the point of injecting people "live" polio? can you give me a source? seems counterproductive.

The live polio in small amounts lets our body make anti-bodies for it and then kill it, preventing us from ever really getting it.

Florida got mauled by Republicans :(
Actually, it wasn't too bad, but the only victories people cared about were the Republican ones.

The election was a relief and a surprise, but now I'm almost thinking Bush wanted to lose. The timing of the Rumsfeld thing. The fact that he said last week Rummy would be there for 2 more years when he knew it wasn't true. It's almost like this is the only way he scrapes out by having other people to blame. But I'm glad anyway. he is getting paranoid. They always do, of course.

Sounds like you're a bit down, Matt, but don't let it get to you.
Go to belamionline.com maybe?

Hey you can come to Australia anyway.

Don't bother coming to Australia.

The entire country has a marriage ban here. It's bleak.

The "live" polio form in the oral polio vaccine is an attenuated variety, but occasionally it can cause polio.

Here's an old NY Times article on how oral vaccine caused occasional polio in the U.S. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?sec=health&res=9F0CE7DD1539F932A15755C0A960958260

But now the U.S. uses the killed polio in its vaccines http://americanhistory.si.edu/polio/virusvaccine/vacraces2.htm

So on your mention of Australia, they don't have it so good either...you're better off moving to England where they actually sanction same sex marriages. And according to Dan (of slowlanedan.blogspot.com) Australia is very forthcoming as far as equal rights for homosexuals: same sex marriages, taxation, medical coverage, et all. Not trying to burst your bubble, but yah! :)

Well, I share to all of you a happy news, I´m sure you`ll rejoy with it.

Today is a big day in Mexico city. Just hour ago was approved a bill that allows civil unions; doesn´t necesary implies sexual relations, but it´s not banned. Any two persons, opposite or same sex not mattering age, that after two years of being together and showing will to take care of each other, making a common home, will be granted hereditary rights, ensurance benefits, but without the right for adoption. But what´s most important a social recognition of an existing reallity in the city.

It´s a happy day for me. I´m 25 and gay, living in Mexico city since the day I was born.

It might not be called marriage, to hell with semantics, it´s a great step foward for a more equal sociaty. I hope, with time, the whole contry will follow this steps.

Just move to Massachusetts. Gay marriage is legal here.

Vermont has Civil Unions and New Jersey will have one or the other soon and Arizona had a Gay Marriage ban on their ballot that was voted down. It's not all bad. Things are slowly moving our way.
