recycle old shoes

Nike's Reuse-A-Shoe program accepts donations of all athletic shoes that don't contain metal. The shoes are converted into athletic surfaces (running tracks, soccer fields, basketball courts) that are sent to underserved communities around the world. You can find a drop-off location for the Nike program here.
One World Running (previously Shoes for Africa) will send your new or gently used shoes to athletes and children in Africa, Mexico, and South and Central America.
I think these are great programs and I hope you'll donate. I admit, I am one who keeps old shoes for years and years, "just in case I need to do some gardening." Really, though, I probably only need one pair of dumpy old shoes. Not 10. So I just thought I'd let you all know these programs are out there.

Nice idea. Thanks Nike. Hopefully it's not a ruse for some bewitched scheme of theirs....;-)
How did the date go anyway? Any luck?
Nate.
P.S. Your blog is very good. Variety is important. You're added as one of my links. Ciao from Florence.
those kids are soooo hot!!
lol jk
i was expecting porn from this site, tho.
The Nike program is the better program. Recycling is the way to go!
Shipping shoes to Africa is ridiculous. Shipping costs are extremely high and for what you would pay to ship the shoes you could purchase all of them locally and spur the local African industry in the countries who make shoes.
If you want to donate something other than shoes (how about $10 bucks?) then go to www.globalgiving.com This website allows an individual donor to make a difference in people's lives directly. The funding goes right to the community projects on the website. The USG vouches for this program and has invested a ton of money in getting the web platform off the ground.
And be SURE to know EXACTLY how your money is going to be used. Many religious groups use the money to build churches and preach to people instead of actually helping them.
